Enrichment

Through our enrichment programme we aim to promote the highest standards of personal and interpersonal behaviour and contribute to offering the widest breadth of challenge and opportunity in a happy and caring environment. Enrichment does not merely support the academic curriculum but has its own educative purpose supported by its own detailed schemes of work.

Main aims:

  • to help pupils to lead confident, healthy and responsible lives as individuals and members of society

  • to empower pupils with the basic skills, experiences, knowledge and attitudes that are required to help them live healthily and deal with the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues they face as they approach adulthood. The pupils should be prepared to be active, confident and responsible members of society

  • to provide opportunities to reflect on their experiences and how they are developing in order to help pupils manage a wider range of relationships responsibly

  • to help develop pupils' well-being and self-esteem, encouraging belief in their ability to succeed and enabling them to take responsibility for their learning and future career choices

Lode Heath’s Enrichment programme is delivered through many aspects of school life including: the whole school curriculum, the form time and assembly programme, Character and Personal Development lessons (CPD) and one-off events including guest speakers, workshops and drama performances. This is further supported by extra-curricular clubs, trips and visits.

Topics are introduced to the students at the appropriate time in a spiral/progressive system that allows, as much as possible, specific concepts to be revisited.

During the 2020-2021 academic year, Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) and Health and Wellbeing have been made a statutory requirement.

During their journey from Year 7 through to Year 11 our pupils gain: 

  • An understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process

  • An appreciation that living under the rule of law protects individual citizens and is essential for their wellbeing and safety

  • An understanding that there is a separation of power between the executive and the judiciary, and that while some public bodies such as the police and the army can be held to account through Parliament, others such as the courts maintain independence

  • An understanding that the freedom to choose and hold other faiths and beliefs is protected in law

  • An acceptance that other people having different faiths or beliefs to oneself (or having none) should be accepted and tolerated, and should not be the cause of prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour

  • An understanding of the importance of identifying and combating discrimination

  • Our form time and assembly programme

  • Year 7 & 8 PSHE lessons

  • Five ‘Life Ready Day’s across the academic year

  • Other vetted visiting speakers

  • Extra-curricular clubs, trips and visits
